The Precipice
and the drama and empowerment of an emerging new age
I haven’t quite landed on it yet, but I know there is a relationship between the drama triangle’s three roles being about power struggles and power dynamics, and the empowerment dynamic about transcending that story and perceived struggle. I’ve been leaning on the word mercy for a way to describe this decision not to use power on someone.
It’s possible that the villain role embodies this more specifically, as I think out loud. They transform their power and desire to prove something into becoming a trainer, or, in the words of the empowerment dynamic, a Challenger, to help someone build muscle. I’ve suspected that the hero role is related to prejudice that transforms into respect, and the role change into a coach is often about providing respect or helping to develop a relationship to respect in some way.
